A New Energy Map for the Cyclades is Taking Shape

at a glance

We’ve been following IPTO’s island interconnection projects for six years, documenting each stage of a national transformation. Now, with the fourth phase underway, the Cyclades are entering a new energy era—one that reshapes the relationship between the islands and the mainland grid.

From Serifos to Santorini, new underwater cables and substations are replacing outdated oil-based systems. These are not abstract upgrades, they bring cleaner energy, fewer emissions, and lower costs for everyone. The connection now being completed between Milos, Folegandros, and Santorini is part of a 524 million euro investment that enables smarter load management, supports the integration of renewables, and unlocks the islands’ potential for growth.

Our role is to show how infrastructure becomes impact. Visualising a project of this scale means more than documenting—it means opening it up to the people it serves. Through photography, video, and narrative, we create the bridge between IPTO and the public—making the complexity of the system visible, relatable, and part of the social dialogue. This is more than a project. It’s a shift in how energy reaches people.
