Ninety-five years of history. Seventy minutes on screen. One hundred and seventy boxes of archival material. Twenty-four interviews. Filming across Agrinio, Piraeus, Aspropyrgos, Heraklion, Metsovo and Lausanne.
These were the building blocks of the Papastratos documentary, produced as the company marks 95 years of history. Papastratos, a member of Philip Morris International, premiered the film on Thursday, September 10, at Olympion Cinema in Thessaloniki.
The documentary brings together retired and current employees, senior executives and descendants of the company’s founders, alongside photographs, documents and archival material being shown publicly for the first time.
Papastratos CEO Tina Davou described the film as both a record of the company’s past and a reference point for what comes next:
“For the first time, we shared 95 years of Papastratos history with the public. It is the story of the company, its people and the decisions that shaped it over the years. It brings together experiences that many of us lived through and that we have now been able to document. For us, this film is part of our legacy and a point of reference for Papastratos’ past, present and future.”
Sotiris Danezis, who led the documentary’s narrative strategy and direction, reflected on the wider significance of the project:
“When Papastratos entrusted us with its story, we knew from the outset that we were dealing with one of the most important chapters in Greece’s industrial history. As the work progressed, we realised it was also something more. It was the story of a country tested in every generation, one that repeatedly found a way to stand back up and recover what it had lost.”
The documentary was produced by Danezis Stories.
