Kathimerini: 95 Years of Papastratos Brought to the Screen

September 2026

For the first time, Papastratos, a member of Philip Morris International, shared its 95-year story with a wider audience through an anniversary documentary directed by Sotiris Danezis and produced by Danezis Stories.

Some stories are not preserved in archives. They live in the memories of the people who experienced them. That idea shaped the way Sotiris Danezis and Danezis Stories approached the project: employees, former employees, executives and descendants of the founders speaking on camera, alongside photographs, documents and archival material brought to light for the first time.

The film premiered on Thursday, September 10, at Olympion Cinema in Thessaloniki, as one of the highlights of Papastratos’ presence at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair.

What stayed with the audience after the 70-minute screening was not simply the chronology, the investments or the corporate milestones. It was the voices of the people themselves, and the moments that emerged when prepared answers gave way to memory.

As Sotiris Danezis describes it, there were points during filming when “the person sitting across from the camera stopped simply answering questions and began to remember.”

He added:

“Those personal stories reveal something else as well: what major change demands from people. Preparation, effort, adaptation and participation. That became one of the threads connecting the different eras of this 95-year journey.”
