When “95 Years of Papastratos – This Is Our Story” began screening at Olympion Cinema in Thessaloniki, almost a century of company history started to unfold on screen.
Directed by Sotiris Danezis and produced by Danezis Stories, the documentary brings together first-hand accounts, personal memories, and stories passed down across generations. Together, they trace the people and events that shaped Papastratos over time.
The film moves through both major turning points and smaller, more personal moments. It follows a company that went through difficult periods, adapted to changing circumstances and continued to evolve, with employees playing a central role throughout that journey.
Some of the most memorable details come from the archive itself. Black-and-white photographs document the group weddings once organised and funded by the Papastratos family for company employees, with financial support or dowries offered to newly married couples.
Another story centres on the company’s early cigarette case-style packaging, which became useful in an unexpected way: politicians were known to write notes, dates and appointments on the case so they would not forget them.
Stories like these bring a different dimension to the company’s history. They move the narrative beyond corporate milestones and reveal the people, habits and everyday moments behind the broader journey.
For those unfamiliar with these chapters of Papastratos history, the documentary offers a closer look at the people who believed in the company’s vision, supported it through periods of change and helped carry it forward to the generations that followed.
